Carole Dawes

I have had a lifelong interest in art, but it was not until I moved to Whidbey Island with its many opportunities to receive professional training and support from fellow artists, that I could begin to seriously pursue my dream. Although I enjoy working in various mediums, watercolor is my first love.  With watercolor, I find that like life, each stroke makes a permanent impression and affects everything that follows. The intriguing combination of terror, joy and peace that ensues is captivating. I am inspired by a number of subjects from the breathtaking vista on the bluff at Ebey’s landing to the face of a child at play.  I carry a camera with me at all times. When I am moved by something, I will photograph it from many angles and then take those images and create something that for me, expresses the feeling triggered by the image.  If I can communicate an emotion through my work, I have succeeded.
